The Five Training Zones

How to Use Your Zones
For a well-rounded fitness routine, most experts recommend polarizing your training. This means spending the majority of your cardiovascular training time (roughly 80%) in the lower zones (Zones 1 and 2) to build a massive aerobic base, and dedicating the remaining 20% to high-intensity intervals in Zones 4 and 5. Overtraining exclusively in the middle 'gray zone' (Zone 3) often leads to fatigue without maximal aerobic or anaerobic gains.
